The Odyssey

A great epic being retold by a director with great vision. The Odyssey has many strengths: a well written story (thanks Homer), a good cast of actors, nice cinematography with well executed practical effects and a nice moody soundtrack to bring all together.

Maybe the only thing that took me a bit to click (and honestly might’ve not have clicked fully) was some of the cast of actors. They all do their acting very well, but to see so many familiar faces all the time would sometimes break my immersion from the world of the movie, and the biggest offender here for me was Tom Holland. Again, great acting by his part, but at times he felt out of place.

As I look back and remember the many set pieces of the movie, I find it hard to pick a favorite. Many shine in their own way, be it because of the use of light and darkness, the sounds and music, the practical effects that almost make it seem real or the epic fights.

Nolan even manages to add a bit of his specialty of disjointed scenes and flashbacks in a way that makes sense and reveals bits of the story at the right time to keep us engaged and wondering how it all fits together.

Sadly I wasn’t able to see at an IMAX screen, but honestly, hard to imagine how the experience could get even better than what I had.
