Holland

The elements of a good thriller are here: small town with distinctive features and costumes (well, holland inside the USA is distinctive enough, right?), characters with secrets and doubts, and a quirky element (the model train and miniatures) that is used here and there. The problem is that those pieces don’t seem to fit together well here, they feel badly stitched.

The characters here felt like they changed their ideas and motivations from scene to scene. The consequences for their actions seemed non existent. Aside from the main characters, the others didn’t seem to have that much pull in the drama. All those points and others are the bad seam that unite the good ideas.

At some part of the movie a nightmare takes place where things feel surreal as they should in a dream, but from that point onwards even the awake parts felt like it had a bit of this dream disconnection, which, it had been done intentionally and pushed a bit further, could’ve had a better result.
